Read: John 14:15-21 – Jesus promises the Holy Spirit

Jesus has been spending time with his disciples and preparing them for when he will ascend to heaven to be with God. Although we do not hear in the Bible what Jesus taught them all the time he was with them we know he wanted the best for them. Earlier in his ministry he told them he would not leave them alone – he would give them something to help them – The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God with us now – the Holy Spirit helps us to pray, to be more like Jesus and to understand the Bible – The Holy Spirit helps Christians carry out God’s work on earth today. He is always with us and will always help us and comfort us. Jesus told the disciples he would not leave them alone – The Holy Spirit is the gift he will send to them at Pentecost.

Who are you missing now? Have you any special reminders of them? What did Jesus promise the disciples? Do we have the Holy Spirit with us now? What does the Holy Spirit do?

Do: Balloon Experiment

(To blow up the balloon we need to use air – we can’t see it but we know it is there as the balloon inflates -we can’t see the Holy Spirit but we know he is there to help us always!)

Pray: God, even though we can’t see you we know you are real. We also know the Holy Spirit is real and that we can rely on him to help us, comfort us and to be with us always. Amen.

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)

Make a point of saying hello to someone you haven’t seen in a long time – send them a message, a letter or phone them to let them know you are thinking of them.
