Read: Luke 19:1-10

Zacchaeus was a tax collector; most people did not like him because he took more money than he should.

Jesus was visiting the town where Zacchaeus lived, and Zacchaeus like everyone else wanted to see Jesus and hear what he was saying. The only problem was there were too many people and Zacchaeus was too short to see so he came up with an idea. Zacchaeus climbed a tree and watched as Jesus came towards him.

When Jesus saw Zacchaeus, he told him to come down, calling him by name and telling him he was going to go to his house. Everyone was amazed that Jesus would do this – why would Jesus want to spend time with someone like Zaccheaus! Zaccheaus knew what everyone was thinking so he told Jesus he would give half his possessions to the poor and pay back four times what he took off people. Zacchaeus was not the man people thought he was, he knew saying sorry wasn’t enough, so he showed he had changed by his actions. Jesus loved him even when he had done wrong, and Zacchaeus showed how much he loved others by his actions.

Who did Zaccheaus go and see? Why did he climb a tree? What did Jesus say to him? What did Jesus say to Zacchaeus? Why did he go to dinner with him? What did Zacchaeus do to become part of God’s family?

Pray: God, thank you for loving us, even when others don’t. Amen.

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)

Share: Think of a way you can share God’s love with people in your family.
