ReadLuke 13:31-35

Jesus knew what was going to happen and was fulfilling all the prophecies that had been written about him – part of that was going to Jerusalem. But Jesus also knew that he needed to be with the people, healing them and teaching them. The pharisees were warning Jesus about what was ahead but they didn’t realise Jesus was part of God’s rescue plan for the world, and because of that he would only leave when he was ready. Jesus was being brave and standing up for what he believed in. Jesus calls Herod a fox and describes himself as a mother hen looking after his chicks. We are lucky to have a God that loves us so much – just as the hen cares for her chicks and protects them from the fox.

Watch

Jesus calls Herod a fox, and then goes on to compare himself to a mother hen. In our video we hear the story of a hen who made a mistake but really tries her best to make sure all turns out ok. The sly fox does not really care about the egg but wants his own way. The hen on the other hand wants to do all they can to help the egg. Jesus cares for us and wants to do all he can to help us – just like the mother hen in the story.

Pray: God thank you for always loving us – even when we don’t see it. Amen

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)
