 Salt! Read: Mark 9:38-50

Jesus is still teaching his disciples – they had a lot to learn, and he wanted to make sure they understood as much as possible. This is a hard reading, but we are going to focus on one part – Jesus wants his disciples to understand that their actions have consequences – they need to do their best not to hurt people, or lead them astray but rather they should be leading them to God. They also need to stop worrying about arguments and rather spend time together learning from one another and sharing what they can.

Virtual Salt Farm Tour

Where does salt come from? How is it harvested? What can you use salt for? Do you know what they would have used salt for at the time of Jesus? Salt was very important and useful. Jesus wanted the disciples to realise that it was not enough for them to simply be with him but that they had to live their lives for him otherwise there was no point. Once the salt is no longer salty its useless!

Raised SALT Painting

Pray: Help us to be like salt!

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)

Share – can you think of all the things we use salt for? When you see salt take time to pray to God.
