Sunday 18th December 2022 – Joseph’s Dream
Many thanks to Kirsty for putting this together A printer friendly version is available at http://www.stranorlar.raphoe.anglican.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18thDec_Lectionary.pdf
Read: Matthew 1:18 – 25
Joseph was engaged to be married to Mary. But something happened that turned his life upside down. Mary was going to have a baby – Joseph knew the baby was not his. Joseph was a good man and didn’t want people to be unkind to Mary so decided he would break up with her quietly. One night Joseph had a strange dream – an angel came to see him and told him he didn’t need to worry about marrying Mary – the baby was going to be a special baby – the saviour of the world, and that he was to be called Jesus. The angel made sure Joseph understood the importance of what had happened – God had picked Mary to do this important job for him.
Joseph knew what he had to do – he married Mary and looked after Jesus like he was his own son.
Watch:
Who was Joseph engaged to? Why was he going to call off the wedding? Who helped him change his mind? What did the angel tell him? What was going to be so special about the baby? What was Joseph to call the baby?

Pray: Heavenly Father, through this season of Advent, we prepare for our Christmas celebrations of the birth of your Son Jesus Christ.
In all the busy times help us to see the importance of your love for us. Show us new ways to share the message of your love for all people. We pray this in the name of Jesus, whose coming we eagerly await. Amen. (Taken from Praying Together)
Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)
Share: Joseph was worried about what would happen to Mary – take some time to pray for someone you are worried about.
