Sunday 11th December 2022 – John the Baptist and Jesus

Read: Matthew 11:2-11

When John was in prison, he wanted to know more about what Jesus was doing and if Jesus was the one he was preparing the way for. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus. Jesus replied that they should tell John everything that they saw – blind people could see, deaf people could hear, people with leprosy were cleansed and the good news was being taught to the poor. Jesus gave all these people a great gift. When the disciples left Jesus told the crowd gathered that John was more than just a prophet – he was the one written about long ago. John was a very special person.

Watch:

Where was John? Who did he send to ask Jesus? What did they ask him? How did Jesus reply? What was so special about John? If you could ask John any questions, what would you ask him?

Pray: Heavenly Father, through this season of Advent, we prepare for our Christmas celebrations of the birth of your Son Jesus Christ.
In all the busy times help us to see the importance of your love for us. Show us new ways to share the message of your love for all people. We pray this in the name of Jesus, whose coming we eagerly await. Amen. (Taken from Praying Together)

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)

Share: Jesus gave people the greatest gift they could have ever imagined – can you think of something you can give to someone who may need cheering up?
