 Read: Luke 18:9-14

Jesus wanted people to think about how they were behaving and what they were saying. He told this story to people who thought they were better than everyone else.

The two men went into the temple to pray – the pharisee was very loud, boastful, and showing off. The Tax collector was quiet, humble, and honest – he asked for forgiveness.

The tax collector was the one who received Gods blessing, not the pharisee. This would have been completely different to how others expected it to be – tax collectors were hated at the time of Jesus, which is why he used this as an example. We need to be more like the tax collector – being honest with God and asking for his forgiveness when we do wrong.

Watch:

The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector

Who went to pray? How did the tax collector pray? How did the pharisee pray? Whose example should we follow? Why?

Pray: God, help us to be humble and true to you. Amen

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)

Share: Take some time to pray for others.
