Sunday 3rd April 2022 – Jesus anointed with Oil
Read: John 12:1-8
Jesus was visiting Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. They had made a special meal for him and the disciples. When dinner was finished Mary did something that no one expected – she took an expensive jar of perfume, broke it open and poured it over Jesus’ feet. Once she had anointed him, she used her hair to dry his feet. The smell was incredible and went all through the house. Most of the disciples were surprised at what she had done – the perfume would have cost nearly a full year’s wages. Judas, the disciple who was going to betray Jesus couldn’t keep his thoughts to himself complained loudly that this was a waste of money – they could have helped the poor people with that money. Judas didn’t really care about the poor but liked to steal from the all the disciple’s money. Jesus was not annoyed or upset – instead he told the disciples that Mary had done something incredible – she understood things would never be the same – there would always be poor people that needed help, but they would not always have the chance to spend time with Jesus.
Watch:
Where was Jesus when this happened? Who anointed him? What did she use? Why was Judas
annoyed? What did Jesus tell Judas and the other disciples?

Pray: Thank you for the example of Mary – giving her best and her all to you. Amen
Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)
