Jesus was teaching a large crowd and began to warn them about teachers of the law – especially teachers of the law who like to show off wearing fancy clothes, wanting everyone to see them and making sure they have the best seats at the feasts. These people, Jesus said were only doing things to show off – not to do God’s work.
Jesus then moved closer to where people gave their temple offerings. While he was there, he watched lots of wealthy people put large amounts of money into the collection pot. A poor widow came and put two small copper coins into the pot. Jesus called his disciples over and explained that although the widow only gave a small amount of money, she had actually put more into thecollection than any of the other rich people. The widow couldn’t afford to give a lot of money, but she gave everything that she had – everything she had to live on. She gave her all to Jesus.

Who did Jesus warn people about? What were they doing that was wrong? How much money did the rich people give for their collection? How much did the widow give? Who gave the most? Why do you think this? What should we give?

What does the Bible say? – can you find other examples of people giving generously in the Bible (for example Luke1:4-7, Luke 7:36-38, Luke 15:11-32)
Pray: God help us to be considerate of others and to give generously. Amen
Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (Taken from Praying Together)
