Sunday 12th September – Following Jesus

Read: Mark 8:27-38

Jesus wanted to prepare his disciples for what would happen at Easter. He spent time talking to them and asking questions. He wanted to know who people thought he was – Peter answered that he was the Messiah. Jesus told them again not to tell anyone about this. Jesus then went on to explain that he would have to suffer, that he would die, but that he would be raised again from the dead. The Disciples were shocked by this, but no one more so than Peter who actually told Jesus off! Peter didn’t want to hear this, but Jesus knew he needed to be prepared. Jesus told Peter that he was only thinking about things that humans are concerned about – not God. Jesus then went on to explain that life as a disciples was not going to be easy, they needed to be prepared for that.

Watch

What was Jesus talking to the disciples about? Who did they say Jesus was? What did Jesus tell them about what was coming next? Why did Peter tell Jesus off? How did Peter react? What did Jesus explain about being a disciple?
