Read: John 1:1-14
This passage in John’s Gospel is probably one of the most well-known Bible passages – ‘In the beginning…’ John’s gospel is different in that instead of starting with the Christmas story John starts by going back to creation and introducing himself before explaining about the true light and how God came to earth. It seems very complicated but what we need to remember and learn from this is that all things come from God – he knew what needed to be done to save us and sent his son to do just that. It was all part of the plan.

Who is writing this gospel? Who is the word? Who was born first – John or Jesus? Who is greater? Why? Who is the light? Is this a good way of describing God?

Pray:
God, thank you for sending your son to earth, as the light and for all Jesus did for us by dying on the cross. Amen.

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day.
Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)
