Kirsty has put together a listing of resources themed on the parable of the talents.

Read: Matthew 25:14-30
This is another story from the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is using this time to prepare people for the coming of the Kingdom of God. Jesus explained that people had been given gifts and talents. They had also been given a choice of what to do with it. Some of the people worked hard and were rewarded by what they got in return. One person however was afraid of the master and did not want to anger him by losing what he had been given. Jesus points out that this is wrong – the master is more annoyed by the fact the person did not do anything! He wasted what he had been given. God has given each of us a talent – we have a choice about what we do with it – do we share, or do we hide our talent? Do we share God with others, or do we share his love with others?

Who do you think the master in the story represents? What do you think the master would have said if the third person had given his money away and did something good with it – e.g. giving to charity. Is there something wrong with the third persons understanding of the what the master is like?

Pray:

Dear God, we all have different skills and talents. Help us to use these in a way that is pleasing to you. Amen.

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day.
Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)

Share:

Can you think about what talents God has given you? Can you think of a way you can share this talent with others? Can you teach someone in your house to do something new?
