Many thanks to all who helped organise and those who attended the Country Gospel concert in St Mary’s church on Friday 10th May. As Whitby our MC for the night said it is amazing how much local talent surrounds us in the Finn Valley area.
We were enthralled by the singing and playing of the One voice choir from Castlefin and Urney. The choir is made up of all ages but the majority would be children. If you get a chance to see them in another venue over the coming months jump at the chance and be amazed at their ability.
Monica Ramsey, Meagan Lucas and Emma Boyle as soloists sang from their respective hearts. Emma’s worry that coming from a musical theatre background might affect her ability to sing solo was unfounded. Meagan despite Whitby’s requests did not get a chance to make him more handsome with a masterclass in makeup but sang beautifully instead. Monica moved us with her rendition of the Bette Midler’s song Wind beneath my wings.
The Finn Valley male voice choir sang with enthusiasm and joy. Their relaxed attitude belayed the little rehearsal time they had for this concert. Catherine explained a little bit about their origins as a cross community cross border initiative for men in Donegal and Tyrone funded through the International fund for Ireland to promote well being both physical and mental and also to help breakdown barriers between communities north and south of the border. This was the second time they have sung in Stranorlar Church of Ireland and once again they excelled. To get a taste of their ability the link below shows them at the Alley Theatre in Strabane when they opened the churches through the lens exhibition.
